Our RSLs

A new designation of Regional System Leaders (RSLs) was established in 2018 to replace the current designation of Local Leaders of Education (LLEs) and to accommodate the various emerging needs of schools. Successful applicants to this designation should be outstanding practitioners who work within schools or associated organisations and who have a successful track record of leading effectively within their own school/organisation or across a group of schools/organisations.

RSLs are expected to extend their involvement in school improvement and outreach work to support other system leaders and / or seek to enter or extend their involvement in system leadership of schools by coaching newly appointed or aspiring middle and senior leaders.

Northern Saints TSA is thrilled that of the five newly designated RSLs in the North East, two are part of our Alliance:

Mrs Denise Ritchie, RSL specialising in maximising the progress of our disadvantaged students (Pupil Premium)

Denise was designated as a RSL specialising in maximising the progress of our disadvantaged students (Pupil Premium) in the first round of RSL designations. She is the only RSL in the North designated in this specialism. This was achieved in recognition of her work as a Pupil Premium reviewer which focused on three strands: Quality First Teaching; Using Evidence and Improving Aspirations. She has led a number of reviews, which have resulted in ongoing supportive relationships with the schools involved. Denise’s passion for teaching and leadership is driven by a strong belief that education should be fair for all, and that all children deserve the highest possible standards of teaching and learning.

Miss Kathryn Fenwick, RSL specialising in improving outcomes for all pupils 

Kathryn was designated as a RSL specialising in improving outcomes for all pupils by promoting effective classroom practice and motivating pupils by ensuring engaging curriculum content and delivery. This was achieved in recognition of her school to school support work. She has led a range of primary teaching and learning CPD, from Nursery to Year 6, advising schools about curriculum design, progression of knowledge and skills and developing a love of learning in school. She has supported a number of staff at different stages of their career with curriculum planning and delivery. The support provided has always been very well received and has led to highly effective partnership work between schools.
