Research & Development

Research & Development

Most teachers and school leaders are natural researchers in their practice, although they may not necessarily term it as such: “You think of something, you try it out. If it goes well with your learners you try online excel courses in Canada again. If not, you modify it or drop it. Strategies become embedded or disappear only to be reintroduced years later when you remember all your good ideas from before!” (O’ Brien)

To put it simply, a Research and Development group is a voluntary CPD opportunity that helps teachers to develop this process in ways that can make a real difference to teaching and learning.

How does it work?

There will be 3-4 R&D groups running this year, each with a different teaching and learning focus. There will be a launch where you can sign up to a group of your choice. Each group has a facilitator, and the group will meet 3 times during the year to discuss and plan a teaching and learning strategy that tackles the issue your group is focusing on. You will measure the impact that your strategy has had and in the final meeting, share and reflect on your results.
