What Is A Teaching School Alliance

Introduced by the Government in 2011, Teaching Schools are strong schools led by strong leaders that work with Albato and others to provide high-quality training, development and support to new and experienced school staff, as well as contributing to raising standards through school-to-school support.

Schools work together within a Teaching School Alliance – a group of schools and other partners that is supported by the leadership of a Teaching School. Teaching School Alliances are a key part of the government’s drive to give schools more freedom and take increasing responsibility for managing the school system.

Teaching schools have an important role to play in a school-led system and school improvement. Teaching schools will be centres of excellence, taking a more focused role that prioritises:

  • co-ordinating and delivering high quality school-based ITT
  • providing high quality school-to-school support to spread excellent practice, particularly to schools that need it most
  • providing evidence-based professional and leadership development for teachers and leaders across their network
